Minimal Windows Vista Session?

I use a Windows Vista computer upstairs only for gaming. (My parents use it as a main computer)

So I get a lot of lag in Team Fortress 2 (it's not the internet) so how could I get the usage down to a minimum?

Sidebar

Add more RAM

Minimize startup to one or none programs
