I'm getting my Dell XPS m1530 today.
My plan is to get rid of everything installed on it and use it plainly with Ubuntu.
I was looking for a way to use Ubuntu and the Media Direct together... but after my searches I concluded that MD is like hard coded for Windows...
So here's my other idea: Is it possible to use the MD key as a hotkey for opening applications in Ubuntu like Elisa, MythTv or any other application? Or is the MD button somekind of hardware related thing which can't be used as a hotkey? (When Ubuntu is already started :P )

I have assigned the MD button to elisa. Here are the steps:
1-go to menu, System > Preferences > Preffered Applications. Select Multimedia tab, type elisa in the Command box.
2-now go to System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts. Click on Launch Media Player, then hit your MD button.
I'm not sure wether the second step is neccessary. I forgot the default setting.

Thankyou... the second step isn't required as it's already used to open your mediaplayer by default. :)

Just curious, does Dell not offer Ubuntu as an OS choice in your locale?

No, Dell only sells pre-installed Os's (other than Vista) in the US.
Even though the hardware is almost identical, Dell customer service in the US (strangely) can't respond to support questions about Ubuntu coming from other places other than the US.
If you look around on the forum you can find a log of my chatsession with one of Dell's support ladies.
In the begining it was going good.... untill I guess she couldn't find the right answers in her big book o' answers in front of her as I was getting a little too techie about drivers and stuff. :P
