Alright, I got a bit of a windows problem here that I need help with.
Now here is the problem, my friend has a toshiba XP laptop that has been working fairly well for some time now.
Now yes he will probably start using linux soon as this is one of the problems he has been having problems with.
His safely remove hardware applet is gone, just plain gone and now he cannot safely remove his hardware.
He uses sensitive hardware too that if not mounted right he cannot use it and he does use this computer for work so its a major issue.
I need to know how I could help him out, it will reflect well on linux if you guys can help on this one.
He is close to using linux and he seems to like Ubuntu, but he is still unsure...
So if we can get this working he might lighten up to linux a bit more because i know the linux community is good with tech junk like this :D

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itproxpsp/thread/b5a6df10-d6a2-4023-adcb-09078af56ba2/ This discussion was created for that problem.

Does he have XP SP3? Does he have Symantec? The SP3 update didn't play well with Symantec. SP3 wrote temp registry entries that should have been deleted when SP3 install was done. Some Antivirus programs didn't allow the deletions, causing havoc. Microsoft issued this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953979

I didn't read that entire discussion, and I have not installed SP3 on my wifes XP machine, I heard there were too many bugs, so I can't tell you that it works. i.e. here's enough rope to hang your self with.
