There were two games that I really liked for the PSOne "Tactics Orge" and "Final Fantasy Tactics". I can't seem find anything like them for linux. Dug all up and around www.happypenguin.org and google. Only thing I could come up with was wesnoth.

I gave Wesnoth a shot but having to be adjacent to the unit you wish to attack from a distance rather defeats the purpose of a ranged attack. That was an annoyance but what caused me to quit playing was that attacking prevented a unit from moving even if that unit hadn't moved that turn. What I experienced of Wesnoth before I quit was absolutely wonderful. I may come back it try again someday.

You could always just install epsxe and play the original playstation games. They have a version for linux, or in the case of this thread, for Debian Sarge and Sid.

I didn't find anything in your game list there Artificial Intellegence. Decided to nose around happypenguin.org some more. Seems someone heard my cry, there's a new game in their database. Currently it is the top headline.

GalaxyMage 0.1.0 New 14 Dec 05 1:39

Category: rpg
Description: Open-source tactical RPG for Linux, Windows, and Macintosh

GalaxyMage is a free, open-source tactical/strategic RPG for Windows, Linux, and Macintosh.

A tactical RPG is a type of role-playing game where turn-based battles are fought on a 3D map. Examples of commercial tactical RPGs include Final Fantasy Tactics, Vandal Hearts, and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

Our goal is to make GalaxyMage a game that is relatively simple to pick up and play -- you can dive right in without getting bogged down in the details of the battle mechanics -- but to also allow for a lot of character development and customization. We also intend to create a unique, advanced AI system that allows enemy units to work together as a team and employ a wide variety of strategies.
