Hi stevehaig,

Upgrade to 8.10 and mobile broadband will just work OTB (Out Of The Box)

This is true in all the cases I have come accross anyway.

Thanks.

For which country? Here in the UK the huawei modems used on T-Mobile, Vodafone and 3 work very well with Linux and they are available on pay as you go. If you use Ubuntu 8.10 and any other distro that uses the latest NetworkManager its fairly easy to get mobile broadband working.

Like I said.

It works here in India too............just configure it in NetworkManager and it connects each time you boot up or login while the device is plugged in.

I would like to get it to work on the std Dell installation first as I am happy with it as it is - it works nicely. And I've just got it all configured as I like.

I have a 3 mobile broadband account - any pointers please?

TIA.

I have bought a top up and go vodafone 3565 usb modem, and downloaded VMC and modeswitcher from the betavine website. I was struggling to get a connection, but then vodafone told me their APN was pp.internet, not pp.vodafone.co.uk as is commonly reported. This solved all my problems, and it is working fine, without needing to update to 8.10.

Cheers

Steve

I have a Dell Latitude D620 with built in wan device that I used with Jordanian Orange simcard, it worked fine with Vista but on Ubuntu I was not able to connect to the network. the network is not present in the list of networks in the configuration window.

Does anyone know how I can make it work with my Sim from Orange (Jordan)? is there an update I can apply to have Jordan included in the countries supported?
