Ok here goes nothing -- Just bought my daughter a new Netgear router and got it hooked up in her house. Granddaughters laptop (Acer notebook - XP) works just fine and connects to internet no problems via internal wireless. My daughter's desktop -- no such luck. I tried to use a USB Wireless G 2.0 adapter (WG111), but install disk is for Windows or Mac only and will not run in Linux. Her desktop is 150 GIG HD, 1 Gig RAM, Pent 4 Processor with Ubuntu 8.04 installed. The place where she bought the router and usb adapter told her (naturally) that the usb adapter would not work with linux and they couldn't help her -- surprise surprise !!
Question is would a PCI wireless card (the one that mounts inside the back of the tower with the antenna sticking out the back) be a better way to go, or is there a way to get the usb adapter working ?? Been working on this for bout three days and can't get it to work at all. I am at work now and don't have access to her comp. Any ideas ??
