hi, i seem to be having problems getting music on and off my ipod nano, it just says i cannot delete the file or folders. when trying to put music on it gives this-
Error opening '/media/STREET ROB/iPod_Control/Music/F24/libgpod655975.mp3' for writing (Read-only file system).
im using ubuntu 10.04 lucid
ive tried all the other programs, i imagine its the same problem, something in my ipod or permissions to read and write.

is there a way to change this so i can add and remove music?.thanks. rob.

I discovered this week that gtkpod in 10.10 now supports my 4GB Shuffle, which it didn't in 10.04. If you have the diddy Nano touch it looks like it doesn't yet work (neither does my iPhone 4). Check versions and see if an upgrade to 10.10 is likely to help:

Hi, I have a 160GB Classic Ipod with firmware version 1.62 which accidently got upgraded when it was last connected to a windows machine with itunes on it, and ever since then it won't connect to ubuntu correctly. I tried to put music in via Gtkpod, clementine and 99% of the other Applications suggested here and none worked. Is there a patch that I can get that will fix this?

Did you try Rhythmbox? I accidentally did a firmware update to my 80GB classic a while back. Rhythmbox is the only player that will work properly with my pod.

I've tried that, None of it works. Is there a way to downgrade an IPODs Firmware so that linux recognises it?

Is the verdict out yet on if Ubuntu 10.10 works with the iPhone4?

Should be a permission configuration; can you make a screenshot of your advanced user settings? Under user manager....

when i connect my ipod, it says this: Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

Hello,
This is what I have looked so far. I have been in my licensed computer shops and they still cannot manage with this question. I have an Ipad 2 (the tablet) and I cannot link it with my Lap Top which owns Linux software. Any ideas?

My 4th generation ipod shuffle works perfectly, I am using Xubuntu 11.04 and GTKPod v1.0.0 using libgpod 0.7.93.
I did have to initialise it in itunes on windows first unfortunately.

For your information, Ipod Touch OS 4.3.1 (current version is 4.3.3) does not work for putting audio on the device. Banshee or gtkpod recognise the device, you can drag files, gtkpod ends with a warning "Unsupported checksum type".
The ipod music app reports that there is no material and that you can use itunes to add music.

The device mounts twice. The first mount "Ipod of user" shows system directories and folders like Books, Photos, Downloads, ... and you can place files on it.
The other mount "Documents on ipod of..." cannot be used.

Ok I manually synced all of my songs by opening up the ipod and finding the media, then dragging it to Rhythmbox, my problem is that after connecting my ipod to my Ubuntu computer my album art is scrambled. I downloaded a cover art finder but I can't move the folder from downloads to /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins I get a "Permission Denied" error.
