I have a dell 8100 with an nvidia geforce4 mx 420.
it works with a new version of ubuntu 8.10 but when i added a game myst through wine.
it switched to 800x600 with 60hz causes me headaches. ( the option in the screen res tool is 800x600 and lower and the refresh rate is highest 60hz and 56 hz.
i need the highest refresh 85.
i haven't found a fix for it and no one seems to answer me.
the hardware driver via administrations makes it worse.
can anybody help me find a real fix.
i don't care about the game as long as i can get my computer running.
when i used feisty and gutsy i could add the restricted drivers then remove them restart and it would fix it for a few months until i added something that compromised the res rate.
i tried making the res rate permanent in xorg conf but that didn't work.
i tried the sudo dpk? re?? x org phiegh???? (can't remember exactly it was a cut and paste thing) but it is hit an miss if the pc powers up correctly with all the refresh rate and res options.
