Hi there,

using our old hp media centre (1180.uk) to try out ubuntu - all going great until I slipped the HP personal media drive into its slot and got, well nothing... The power light comes on, the drive light flikers but nothing else. Drive works with my macbook and my windows xp laptop as an external drive, but will not do so with any usb port on the ubuntu'd HP.

I'm at a loss. Have tried fdisk to see what's going on and the HP drive doesn't even show - no sign of /sdb at all (which is what should be listed I understand).

The model no of the HP disk is a HP1600, it contains a Maxtor SATA 160 hd.

So, I can use terminal and follow basic instructions, but pretty much as a parrot follows things - please help!
