To put music onto a CD is surprisingly easy in Ubuntu. Simply go Applications --> Sound & Video --> Serpentine Audio CD Creator. Then, click the add button and add songs. Hoorah! The rest should be simple, but if not post again.

What do you mean when you say 'it won't let you download them'? Try clicking search for codecs, then install all the codecs it asks you to install. Also, what are the file extensions of your songs?

What does it do when you try to install them?

I believe 'sudo apt-get install liblame0' in a terminal would do the trick. (without '' obviously)
