Could you be a little more descriptive. What commands did you execute and what error messages did you get? Perhaps you are using envy and not envyng. If this is the case remove envy and then install envyng.

sudo apt-get install envyng-core

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
wget http://albertomilone.com/ubuntu/nvidia/scripts/envy_0.9.5-0ubuntu3_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i envy*.deb
sudo envy -t
those are the commands ive used

so i installed envyng, now what do i do?

You should be good to go, although you can install a GUI for envyng.

For GNOME:

sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk

For KDE:

sudo apt-get install envyng-qt

to install new drivers when they become available, or is there more to it than that?

After every kernel update you have to reinstall the driver. I have never paid any attention to installing new drivers as they were released, so I'm not sure about that.

envyng -g

or

envyng -k

You can also add to your applications menu by right clicking and selecting "Edit Menus".

If you ran

envyng -g

then I don't know what is going on here.

Check the man page, although it doesn't give much information.

man envyng
