I have two laptops an acer aspire one and another acer both running 8.10. I only have one wired connection to the Internet in my room. I was wondering if its possible to set up a network that would allow my acer aspire one to connect wirelessly to my main laptop and use its Internet connection as well as access its hard disk?

of course, you can, You should define your wired notebook as a network router and made an ad-hoc connection between the two computers. Also I recomend you to buy a cheap switch (les than 20€) to connect the two computers to the same cable.

Try Firestarter on the machine that already has internet.

sudo apt-get install firestarter

you would need to setup an adhoc network too http://www.prash-babu.com/2008/08/how-to-createjoin-adhoc-network-in.html .. for file sharing you could use samba or nfs..
