Hello,

I am new to Ubuntu. I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my desktop. My day to day work on my personal desktop involves bank transactions and other online purchases. So I had Antivirus and a good firewall when I was using Windows XP. Now I have been using Ubuntu 8.10 for over a week and really wondered that such a quality OS software is being distributed for free. . .May be thats the greatness of the opensource community. . .So my question is whether or not I need an Antivirus software for Ubuntu Linux also. However I have installed a Firewall software by:

sudo apt-get install firestarter

So is an antivirus software too is required in my case keeping in view my day to day job on my own PC.

PS: If antivirus software is not required, then please explain me in detail why it is not required.

Thanks,
Rajesh Adluri.
