Dell Inspiron 1501 2G RAM, stock everything else. Dual boot XP and Ubuntu Intrepid, C: partition.

Windows cannot see Ubuntu, even in Partition Magic Pro. Ubuntu cannot see Windows. Can't use gparted, or anything else, as Ubuntu thinks it has no free space. I even went and deleted all my music, still no free space.

What is going on? How do I fix this? Should I just start over (I have everything backed up on an external)? I am an almost total beginner, so run it at me like I'm 10 years old.

Thank you so much in advance for all the help!

Huh, interesting. I'd do a complete clean, what OS did you have installed first?

I started with Vista, wiped that out, and put on XP, then loaded ubuntu.

And actually, when my friend who helped me (he's an IT...) was helping me do all this, we partitioned the drive, but we installed ubuntu on the same side as XP. So, we had no space left.

Wiped it all out, repartitioned and formatted the drive, reinstalled ubuntu, and now she's up and running like a champ.

I'm sure I'll be back again with many more simple questions in the future.

That would make sense, having both on the same side, both trying to mount eachother, ect.
Glad you got it working. Ask away anytime.
