I am wondering if there is something similar to the matlab web browser whereby I can input data from a webpage and do the backend simulation using octave/scilab instead of matlab?
Thanks and appreciated.

I would give this a try:
http://www.ms.uky.edu/~statweb/
There is a link on that site to get the cgi scripts used for the demo.
You may also want to look at these two:

To continue the discussion, this provides a better site for web-octave

The download is available in sourceforge.
