View Full Version : [ubuntu] need to transfer files from old pc to new one

i just got my new laptop and i need to transfer all my music from my old computer to the new one... they both run on ubuntu but i have absolutely no clue on how to do it... i was thinking about using and ethernet chord but once i hook them together i dont know what to do next.
help please! i'm traveling in 5 days!

You'll need a crossover Ethernet cable if you want transfer files via Ethernet.
Or you can do it via sneakernet (USB flash drive).

thanx bucky ball, i tried that link but it didn't work for me, i needed a fast solution rather than "the right way to do it" so i used a software from the repository called "Giver". if u need to transfer files regularly between 2 computers i wouldnt recommend it because quite frankly it sucks, but i needed a quick solution and it did the job.

A pleasure. You found a fix in the end so well done. I'll check Giver out myself sometime.
