Wow, that's GNUStep? That looks fantastic. Coupled with gNewSense, that could make a fantastic free distro...

Looks great, I first heard about it in a website and I think it looked good, I'm a sucker for fancy/experimental enviroments but I'm going to wait till it's a little more mature to try it out.

You can try it in Ubuntu, just like any other DE/WM. It's been available in the repositories since Gutsy. Find more about the package here (http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=sourcenames&keywords=etoile).

I personally like Etoile, but it will not replace my current desktop setup.

After playing with GNUSTEP this morning, I'm really excited about the potential of Etoile.

It's just so darn...intuitive. That's the only word I can think of for it. It's not the prettiest thing, but gosh it works well! Being able to edit the entire layout of the menus and submenus is a godsend, I've never seen something so amazingly useable.

Etoile has been a total PITA to compile, running here and there looking for obscure dependencies and trying to understand why it just keeps spitting out error after error. It's an interesting enough project but I think it still needs a lot of work done on it. Especially in the form of packaging for operating systems other than Ubuntu and FreeBSD such as being added to the AUR repo, creating a slackbuild, or making an ebuild.
