My mom gave me a CD filled with photos she scanned off from when I and my sisters were kids. (How cool is that!)

Anyway, to save time (because she doesn't know how to edit photos and I told her, "Just lay as many as you can fit down and scan 6 or whatever at a time and save it as one image")...

I'm wondering if there is any software out there that can take a full page sized image (that has a lot of white space) and is smart enough to identify individual pictures in the scan, crop them out separately and rotate them automatically if possible. Anything out there like that?

I am after something that has the same functionality.

Apparently Photoshop CS has an auto crop facility

"The Crop and Straighten Photos command helps you make separate image files from multiple images in a single scan. For best results, you should keep 1/8 inch between the images in your scan, and the background (typically the scanner bed) should be a uniform color with little noise. The Crop and Straighten Photos command works best on images with clearly delineated outlines".

Is there a Linux program that can do this?
