I noticed a thread on this before, but i cannot find it again. I have noticed that either system sounds work, or internet sounds work, not both. This is a great frustration, and there have been times that if i restart the problem switches to the system not working or the internet sound not working. There was also one instance yesterday where the problem switched without a ctrl+alt+bksp...weird.
I am sure that others have had this problem because every problem that I have had is not out of the ordinary, so how do I fix this?? thanks!

One of these perhaps
Here are a few options to choose from from fixing pulse to disabling it and using asla, or replacing pulse with esound.
First fixing pulse

Disabling pulse and using alsa (Before deciding to remove pulse you should read the warning here as to what the result could be).

Or these.
The complete way

Or the short way
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
in a terminal.
Applications>Accessories>Terminal
