In the Kubuntu 8.10 installer, the partition editor seems kinda minimal compared to both GParted and QParted ... for instance, you can't resize partitions graphically, you have to commit a resize before it will let you create new partitions, which is kind of scary, and if there are errors on a partition that prevent it from being edited it won't tell you about them...
Also: what could this mean? When resizing the partition, it sits at 0% for about 15 minutes, then says there was an error writing to the disk and the operation has been aborted.
I usually install from the Ubuntu CD and then add kubuntu-desktop, so this is actually my first time with the actual kubuntu installer :)
