Hello All,

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere; I'm trying to get my wife's grandfather all set up before we head back out of state (we're just visiting for Christmas), and we fly out tonight, so I'm sort of running out of time.

I've got him the latest version of Ubuntu (8.10) installed, and most everything works great. However, last night he wanted to listen to some of the podcasts at:

http://cultivategreatness.com/2008/04/26/skip-the-tuition-100-free-podcasts-from-the-best-colleges-in-the-world

The problem is that, when he clicked on any of them (taking "Modern Theoretical Physics", near the top - http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/itunes.stanford.edu.1291062366 - as an example), it popped up a message about connecting to iTunes university, and not much else. After trying to get some appropriate packages installed, Firefox is now suggesting Rhythymbox as the application to open it with; however, when I choose it, Rhythymbox opens, but doesn't actually load the podcast.

I've also tried pasting in the URL for the specific podcast in Amarok, but it just says "Podcast returned invalid data" and fails to load. I've gone all through the source of the URL for the specific podcast, as well as the page with links to all of them, and I can't find any RSS feeds for these, which is what several places I saw suggested.

Does anyone know how to get Podcasts like these to play under Ubuntu? Or is he just out of luck until I get a Windows virtual machine set up?

Probably you won't need any advice on this issue anymore since Christmas is long gone by but this is one of the first hits on Goolge for "itunes university ubuntu" so I will share my thoughts.

Apple high-jacked many podcast with there non-standard rss. That is indeed a shame.
The universities need to offer their podcasts as standard rss-feeds as Berkeley for example.
http://itunes.stanford.edu/faq.html states that they are planning to offer standard rss. To accelerate the process you could try to enquire them to offer standard rss-feeds.

A workaround would be to use wine or crossover office to run itunes. I suppose that the podcast-feature should work with an older and well tested itunes version.

The end of this documentation page (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/iTunesMusicStore) should help.
