You need to:

1) Install wine
2) Install war3 and war3:tft with wine
3) Update war3:tft to the latest version
4) Install a crack from megagames.com
5) Run the game with "wine war3 -opengl"

Get Cedega and your problems are over.

Wine doesn't have any problems with the CD Check. Or at the very least the wine from the winehq repos doesn't.

You need a crack to get Warcraft 3 to run on Linux!? Blizzard ought to be ashamed. [-X

No it is not. I think they now have some kind of trial version for so long. You might want to check that out. I think a Cedega subscription is $5 a month.

You could also try to install it via CVS but I don't that version is as good as the main Cedega releases for subscribers.

On a related note I needed to patch wine and compile it myself to get Warcraft III working :(

It's all due to this bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2075

You have to get the patch in the bug report (about half way down) and manually apply it, as it won't automatically apply any more due to changes in the wine CVS.

A bit of a task, even if you can read code fairly well.

I'm not sure why the change hasn't made it into the wine CVS yet.

Could I maybe DL the trail version and install WoW and all my other games and then just let the trial run out? Does the trail coem with the newest version of cedega?

I have a disk image I've been using in windows that I mount with daemon tools and it works like a nocd crack without actually modifying the binary.

I've attached it along with a question

Is there any way to mount this image in linux so that I wouldn't need to use a crack?
