For some reason, when I run virtualBox, I cannot seem to get my recovery CD to install XP in the VM... The CD was a recovery CD (1 of 6) provided by Lenovo with my computer. In VirtualBox, it starts, makes it to the "splash" page, restarts my computer, splash page, restart, splash page, restart, splash page, etc.. each time going a little faster... I'm not sure what to do. The CD works fine if when left in the regular non-VM computer. Any suggestions? Thank You!

Last I knew, you cannot install XP in VirtualBox with a recovery disc. You'll need a full installation disc. Some OEM install discs will work, others will not. Its frustrating the way manufacturers screw with their customers like that.

Ok, maybe they should provide 2 seperate disks: XP and Lenovo Drivers. I am thinking, maybe it is time for "complaint mail"? It already took Lenovo 4 months of "we don't have this battery" before they finally gave us the option to cancel shipments...

Recovery CDs are just that - recovery. You can't install them.
They are branded to specific hardware and hard disk / partition layout. You will have to look for a full install CD ...

Though I think it's legal to download a full disk of Win XP from the internet, as long as you use a legal CD Key. They don't care about you buying the disk, because it's useless without the $100 key.
Or maybe MS will send you one, if you ask. I thought companies selling OEM licenses had to make full install disks available, though.
Good luck!

I wanted to move my native XP into a VM on my Toshiba laptop (now running Ubuntu) but had no luck getting the VM to boot from the OEM install CD. I was eventually able to get it working though and it didn't involve ringing Microsoft or using pirated software. My XP VM is now fully activated using the original OEM license. and the automatic XP updates work. Details at http://move-your-xp-to-vm.blogspot.com/.
