The Vista Business OS that came on my Mini-Note has a sophisticated power management facility that allows me to basically underclock the machine to run cooler and extend battery life. The problem, of course, is that Vista is sluggish to begin with, and reducing CPU performance compounds the problem.

Ubunti 8.10 is pretty responsive on the Mini-Note, but the machine runs very hot. Is it possible to underclock the Via cpu to maybe 1.2M or less to improve the battery life and reduce the heat? For most of what I do with the machine, I could easily live with the performance hit I'd take with the underclocking.

I tried the ROM Setup, but no cpu customization is available there.

Thanks.
