Hello,

I have a Dell XPS m1530 with a nVidia 8600m GT. I have been enjoying Linux for almost two weeks now, but I would like to increase my performance in some 3d games. I have installed the restricted drivers version 177. I've noticed that when I enable anti-aliasing, frame-rate drops considerably. This was not a problem in Windows, as increase anti-aliasing made the picture cleaner and did not affect the frame-rate. However, in Linux the framerate drops quite a bit. Are there any tweaks to fix such a problem ? What other tweaks are available to get the most out of my video card in Linux ?

Thanks

Maybe you had vsync enabled in windows?

Anti-aliasing always drops FPS, it's quite an expensive thing to do. I have the same card btw.

AA always costs performance, as stated above. However, in nexuiz on my 512 MB 8600 GT, I can easily enable HDR lightning, 16 x AA, and 16 x Ani. filtering, and all other effects on maximum and still get 50 to 80 fps at resolution 1680x1050. In other words, shouldn't be a problem.

What's the rest of your specs?

The performance hit seems to be most problematic in Wine. In Linux Applications, its not a problem.... So my question should be really, are there any tweaks for Wine, specifically DirectX 8 tweaks?

Yeah, lots, but it would get more attention if it was in the wine forum then. I've asked for a mod to move this
