OK, just got a Canon HV30 High Def camcorder. All HD output goes via the 1394 port. Is there any good software to capture this video stream output and edit the video.

I'm going to be getting this camera in a week, but apparently Kdenlive (http://www.kdenlive.org/video-editor/canon-hv30) supports it.

Thanks for the info! Yes according to their web site it seems to support HDV. I have 0.6 installed on my Gnome desktop. Unfortunately, when I first open it, it crashes, but then if I reopen again it stays up. I have not tried this with HV30 camera. Perhaps the new version is more stable (0.7 according to the web site, but it looks like it is for Intrepid, I don't see it in the Hardy repos).
