How to change ipod username

Hi, i have an ipod that takes ages to load, but when it finally does, i'm unable to put any music on it as it tells me that permissions are denied. i have tried using rhythmbox gktpod and amarok but none do it.
When i try and change the username in nautilus i get told that i'm not permitted to change the username.
Please help me out, i'm still quite new to ubuntu so you may need to explain how to do something in basic terms.

-Pop open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal).
-Change to your media folder by typing:
cd /media/
-Type:
ls -la and post the output.
