I've been working on the same problem for months now. It doesn't appear to be a codec problem because I have the win32codecs installed. It was working fine for me, and then I did some updates, and now it won't play avi videos, but I can hear the sound playing. mpg files work fine.

I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

How do you get it so save dvds as an mpg? Or do you mean in general.

I get the mpg's from two sources. If I use nuvexport to export a recording, those are in mpg format and will play. Also, I have ripped some of my dvd's in mpg format. I think that might be the default if Excellent is selected for the rip.

I have another clue on this avi problem. If I take an avi file and change the file extension to mpg, MythTV will play it.

EDIT: nice it worked. Thanks for the way around while I try and fix this problem!
