Ubuntu server isn't detecting an internet connection like it does on desktop. any ideas ?

i was told to use MadWiFi since i have Atheros as my Wireless controller but i'm not entirely sure how that would work. suggestions anyone ?

to the Developers: a GCC copy should be included in Ubuntu Server. maybe a 'DVD copy' of ubuntu server with all the nicks and gadgets ?
