View Full Version : [kubuntu] Kubuntu Heron livecd works, but Ibex freezes at desktop

First: Yes, the md5 and disc-check worked fine.

Ibex of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu (I prefer KDE) won't work whenever I use the LiveCD or Wubi. It just freezes when I the mouse appears (sometimes when the desktop appears) and my drive lights start flashing, whether I'm in Safemode or normal. I was wondering if my comp doesn't like Ubuntu, but Heron works fine (kubuntu).

Specs:
Gateway M405 Notebook (crappy '03 laptop)
1300 mhz Celeron M
1 gig Ram
Terrible Intel Graphics Controller
(btw, I'm switching from XP)

Any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately my wireless card wasn't detected in Heron, while the wiki says it should be...

I'd bet KDE 4 is the culprit. Hardy Heron uses KDE 3.
If you want KDE 4, I suppose you could try openSUSE.

Well, I've got Hardy installed on here now. I would think KDE 4 was the problem, but Ubuntu Ibex wasn't working either.

Also, after updating just now, my battery meter disappeared. Wut?
