I tried running the installer with wine, but it wouldn't install. Does wine come with DirectX, or do I have to install it some other way?

Wine tries to do it's best job of converting DirectX into linux, so otherwise, Wine uses it's own DirectX (which is getting better all the time.)

That's unfortunate, because when I install Guild Wars, this is what it looks like:

Is there anyway to fix this?

DirectX is a windows API. Linux can do its best to try and have its own, sort of, version of it though.

Cedega is wine, but with alot more directx support.

Isn't cedega a pay service though?

I wish there was a cedega-esque solution that was free. Then I wouldn't consider running a windows box for games =/

Try cedega (http://transgaming.org) since version 5.* Guild wars has worked very well for me!

1. BACKUP your Steam-Folder!

2. Install winetools via Synaptic.

3. Start winetools

4. Choose: "Base setup"

5. Install everything (IE only once!)

6. Choose: "Modify the Wine configuration"

7. Choose: "Windows ME"
