Ok so i installed Ubuntu on my main PC as i have grown less and less needy of Windows, the machine was running fine untill early this morning.

I woke and booted from Vista as i had finished playin TF2 and went back to Ubuntu and my sound had vanished, tryed several reboots to see if it was just a booting glitch but the issue has persisted.
Shortly after boot i get a large half transparent speaker icon flashing on the desktop, i asked on IRC what could be causing this and was told it was due to the new Kernel.
Thing is it has been running this Kernel for days and it caused no issue plus i have booted the live CD and i do have sound from that but the icon flashing still persists.

Not sure what to do to fix this so i can get my ubuntu back in shape so any helps apreciated, mobo is GA X38 DS4 (specs below if needed)

Did a full reinstall of the OS and sound works, from the actual install screen the icon was blinking tho a smaller version from the above screenshot.
I dont get why its suddently doing this even on the installer and when its installed fresh then updated.

Any suggestions ?
