Please no more threads bashing Microsoft for stupid reasons... What the hell are you trying to prove here?
This is an ad campaign, Microsoft is trying to sell their stuff, as every company does.

If they really bother you that much just turn your TV off. I'll never understand why a minority of Linux users have a problem with Microsoft even existing.

Just a stupid thought but it may be because of this:

..........and MAYBE they decide to write down how they feel about in a COMMUNITY CAFFE???
And maybe I have the right to write down how I feel about that, too?

I find the Ads quite amusing, especially the tag line:
Life without walls
From my experience you have less choice with MS Windows than with Linux.

I think the ads are fantastic. I actually start paying attention to the commercials. Usually I mute the TV during the commercials because they bump up the volume and I refuse to partcipate in all of that, but I absolutely think the Windows commercials are about the most adorable thing I've ever seen.
It also really gets my blood pumping for a good natured "fight," you know? Microsoft decided to take on Mac's great commercials head on. Let's join in!
NO let's not have user made commercials in a contest on youtube so that they looks shoddy and that makes Ubuntu or Linux look shoddy. Let's put up a real dog-done fight and go right up against both of these two wonderful commercial campaigns!
StevieFordi:
"From my experience you have less choice with MS Windows than with Linux." I don't think the "Life without walls" is combating linux, I think it's combating Mac. I know quite a few of my friends who are honestly disappointed in their mac products at the limits of their software (they want to play windows games) and most especially and most often that they are trapped with using itunes with their ipod, or they feel that way.

Personally I don't care either way. It is Microsoft's money and they can spend it anyway they wish. I discovered Linux because of Vista...its not bashing...its the truth.
Apple doubled/tripled their market share since Vista's release...and that is a fact and not FUD from some Linux fanboy.
I still think XP is the greatest OS released, Windows 2000 was and still is... a fine OS. But Vista didn't pan out for many, and as a result MSFT is hurting because of it...thats a fact too. I still use XP along with Ubuntu and other Linux distros and will continue to for a awhile.
Ubuntu is a pretty good substitute for Windows, it has many advantages over Windows. MSFT hurt themselves by taking XP (except for notebooks) off the market.

What worries me is that they are automatically associating the word PC with Windows. Most of here use PC's with Ubuntu. Is n't this some sort of patent/copy right issue?
I have to say the Ads really annoy me.

Do we have to prove something in each and every post we do?
How about the OP learns about the search function? Instead of posting "I hate Microsoft" post #104,503,323. It's rude and inconsiderate to the moderators when people create pointless work for the mods. The OP knows better since he's been here since '05.
..........and MAYBE the way they're doing it have some people annoyed?
Maybe anything Microsoft or Apple does(or any other business for that matter) annoys them? Heck, I bet Microsoft could donate all of their 2009 & 2010 profits towards charities and I the same people would still call them the anti-christ.
..........and MAYBE they decide to write down how they feel about in a COMMUNITY CAFFE????
you're saying, without manners, that he/she should either put that comment here but proving something, or post it somewhere else.
Would you be so kind to explain us where such a post should be if not in the Community Caffe?
There are about 1000 other annoying "I hate Microsoft" posts here on this forum. Use the search function before posting perhaps? The OP didn't use his manners and made a pointless thread about a topic that already exists. Why should the OP get respect when he gives none to the mods?
This is an old flash animation about the Steam forums, but the same guidelines apply just about everywhere. Posting and You (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting)

Remember what happened when XP 1st was released?
Everyone thought XP was a dumb idea that would be the death of Microsoft, and they'd hold-on to their Win2000 forever. People didn't start becoming accepting and liking XP until SP1 or SP2. Now you can't tear XP out of folks' hands. It is the old stable version that has been around far too long (from a business perspective)-and folks have gotten used to its way of doing things.
Granted Microsoft seems to have declared Vista the next WindowsME and are giving up on it, in that they are already pushing Win7.

If there are those who think that Windows 7 will be released next year as a full fledged client OS are really just being silly. I honestly think that Windows 7 won't be ready until at least 2010... I could be wrong.
Also, it's about time that Microsoft started firing back at the Mac vs PC ads... remember, Macs are PC's too and that all PC's are not just a nerdy type fellow in a suit and that Macs are the cool guy that everyone seems to like. Makes me hate the whole Mac fanboy mentality because it perpetuates the "too cool for the room" mentality most Mac fanboys have (not all).

I still think win2K is superior to winXP. The only reason I used XP was because they stopped updating directX for win2K and the latest games I wanted to play needed it. Now that vista is out they are (surprise surprise) only offering the latest versions of directX on vista and stopping all XP support. It's a form of intentional obsolescence so that people have to upgrade to run the newer version even if the old version works better because it is lacking certain 'features' (DRM, special effects, etc.)

Shouldn't IBM be suing microsoft for copyright infringments?
A PC by definition, is a personal computer, and in my view, that applies to macs as well. It doesn't matter what operating system it is running as long it is running one it is a PC.
It seems that although linux is being shielded from the average user, people find out about linux through curiosity and because their existing operating systems do not work as they had hoped for. Vista and Leopard for example.
And acctually, I think that the adverts mean that microsoft is now taking the competition seriously this time, which is only good for linux, IMO.

By that logic Linus Torvalds should be suing Ubuntu because of the misrepresentation of the word "Linux" (Linux is the kernel afaik, not the OS)

Yes, no WGA...can run on lower hardware than XP..and can still run some modern programs. I still have it on some machines.

this is ridiculous:Microsoft claims that free software like Linux, which runs a big chunk of corporate America, violates 235 of its patents.
Linux tries to avoid Microsoft's ideas.
If the company gets its way, free software won't be free anymore.
That is worse than the PC ads. Not trying to bash, but that is too far. Eliminating competition just to get more money. That is the greed that started the crisis that America is in. More money.
Not trying to bash, but this article makes Microsoft look very greedy, and like horrible people.

Their ideas maybe, but I would not be surprised if Linux has implemented several things that violate MS' patents in one way or another. Of course I hope as much as anyone that nothing will come of it.

Most of Microsoft's patents have been nullified and voided.

Hence why we have heard no FUD from Microsoft in the past months. I'm honestly surprised no one has tried to sue Microsoft for defamation of title.
