How can search a specific word combination here in the forums?
In Google I would use quotation marks but it doesn't work here.

I haven't found a way yet. It would be nice.
Just this morning I ws searching for a thread which I knew contained the phrase the easy way but it took me ages to find it.
Can we have phrase searching in the advanded search?
I suppose there's always Google advanced search, just tell it to search only these forums.
Edit: I just tried it, and the post I was looking for earlier was top of the list.

Another idea would be to be able to search for words in only one post. This would be very helpful in threads that have hundreds or thousands of posts.
For example, if you search now for "USB cable modem", you might find a thread in which someone is complaining at post #1 about his/her dial-up modem not working in Ubuntu, someone else is lashing at his/her cable company in post #84 and somebody else is asking at post #249 what does USB mean. So your search for "USB cable modem" would be irrelevant.

If phrase searching would work, it would help people to find answers easier and it would definitely reduse the amount of duplicate threads.

I agree. Searching for phrase is sorely lacking in this forum software. No wonder there are so many duplicate threads.
Searching without pharse support is like searching a needle in a haystack. Too many irrelevant hits with keyword search.
