i have a dell d610 with (according to lspci) a "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Mobility Radeon X300]"
worked fin in 8.04, but with the upgrade came low graphics mode. I can't run any opengl applications, like compiz (miss mah wiggly windows), or games.
tried:
the "restricted driver" under hardware drivers,
1. sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
2. sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati
xserver-xorg-video-radeon
3. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
tried the .run from ati's website,
nothing has worked, every time i boot, it shows the tty, then the x.org low graphic settings prompt, recovery options (which don't work, then load low graphics settings.
argh... just had 8.04 working smoothly, upgraded because i heard the flash sound problem had been fixed, and this happens.
(also: any directions may have to tell me how to remove the drivers from the .run provided by ati)
