I've always been a huge MW fan, but 2 has always been my favorite. Unfortunately, after upgrading from Win98 to win2k+, I was very saddened that Mechwarrior 2 Platinum is -impossible- to run. About a week ago, I decided I wanted to go back to using Ubuntu when I saw there was a new version out.
Well, I decided to try my luck again. Installed Wine 0.9.2. Tested it out with some other stuff and found that it was functioning. Sooo....... Decided to see how my luck fared with MW2. Tried two things - I copied the files that Setup transfers manually to my drive and tried to run Mw2win.exe. It didn't detect the CD. Well, my CD drive was properly set up and everything I tried still failed that way.
So, then I tried to install it. Everything looked properly configured with Wine... But... As I expected - No go. Brought up the screen like it was going to, but immediately crashed, bringing up a rather long list of debug info in the terminal screen...
Anyways... I was wondering if anyone had any luck running this particular version? I'm aware that the DOS versions do run, but, this was a release that was Win95 Only. Heck, it was hard to get running right even in Win98.
