Lyx - the latex editor - some problems

I am using Lyx1.5.5 in Hardy. I am having two major problem when I deal with EPS figures.
1. When I am seeing the DVI output it is not showing the figure - only a boarder is there (I used figurefloat)
2. When I converted the Lyx to PDF then I loose the EPS nature of the figure and the pdf figure is not compact. Therefore the formatting is not smooth.

Anyone with some experience in Lyx and fixing things like these? I tried to use epstopdf converter but it didn't work out.

It sounds like you do not have some postscript utilities installed. Go to synaptic and bring up lyx and look for the recommended packages. The black ones (versus the grey ones) can be installed. Install those related to postscript.....
