Hey,

I got chatting about computing to the guy that owns my local fruit and veg shop the other day. He has no real system at his shop at all - and is getting by with pen and paper at the moment. I mentioned open source, and he seemed interested. The guy knows a little about javascript so he is IT aware - but I get the impression that he has little time and is looking for a solution. I said I'd help, and I am interested in your opinions.

The requirememnts are ...
some sort of customer management
a web site, with ordering and account ability
easy to update and use (some of his staff are not that IT aware)
he has two shops so it would have to be able to scale between the two, and of course communicate between them
reports and "jobs to do" lists

So I was thinking about an ubuntu machine at each shop for the staff to use. I think it the best OS around. Both sites connected to a joomla website running some sort of shop component. I have no idea about the CRM side of things at the moment though.

Something that I am not sure about is how to sell weights and measures and the best way of implementing these in an online shop.

The guy seems really keen and intersted in open source, so with some advice there is a very real chance this could be a happy little success story.
