Hello..

I have been a Ubuntu user for almost 2 years now & I love it.
I've sorted out every problem I've faced till now.(Thanks to you guys).

But this one is driving me crazy.

I own a Dell Inspiron 1525. It came preloaded with Vista.

Vista gives me atleast 3.5 hours battery life in Balanced state.

But ubuntu gives me a maximum of 2 hours even when used in powersaver state.

I've tried various methods (powertop/custom states/switching between different power management packages) but could not increse my battery life.

Please help. I would rather give up computers than using vista.

Please..Anyone.

Is there any other well supported linux distro that has nice power management?

I'm not sure how much this will increase your battery life, but you should enable laptop mode if you have not already. See this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=994598
Also see this from the Ubuntu wiki:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerManagement#Power%20(saving)%20states
For what it's worth, I get about 2.5-2.75 hours battery life on my Acer 3680 laptop, and that is with the upgraded 9 cell battery.

I have enabled laptop mode, hdparm and various other tricks.
I also applied some tricks by lesswatts.org
Still I can only get upto 2 hours maximum.

How much does the Kernel matter?..
I have the generic kernel running.
Will a specific kernel increase performance or battery life?

well if you had a microkernel, your batterylife should be phenomenal:lolflag:

Really? How would a microkernel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microkernel) make battery life phenomenal? Where would you get a microkernel?

(I think you don't know what you're talking about. If you do, then please explain.)
