Install Ubuntu, separately, two times. Call the first one 'Test' and the second 'Live'. The idea is that you do your testing, changes, s/w installation, etc. in 'Test' and only when they work, do the same in 'Live'. This way even if you obliterate 'Test' you just reboot and log into 'Live'. Also, on a third install you could play with the next Ubuntu version.

No offense, but this has to be the worst HowTo I have ever seen and I dont see how it could be allowed to stay in HowTo section?
If u want a secure system set up a virtual machine with the tool of your choice and install what u want to test in the virtual machine, then restore it to previous state after u finish testing!!
Not speaking about having 3 Ubuntu installations?? Thats just dumb.....

Howto's may also be just quick tips. These day-to-day observations may be obvious to some, but to others it may be a pretty interesting idea they've yet to think of....
Like if this forum only contained articles that I'd find enlightening, I think there'd be less than 20 threads altogether. ;)

And "Live" should be installed after "Test", just in case you mess up GRUB.
