hi!
i'm slightly new in ubuntu (8.10 inside vmware), trying to use eclipse for web development. when i'm entering " or ' i must press "+space and '+space to get them. if i enter " twice, I'll get strange double-quotes (double-apostrophe?), my translator isn't understanding it. i googled for some info, and got, that it is some Unicode coding used with keyboard, to get letters with umlauts (Ä, ä).
i want to turn it off, because this hasn't much usability.
how can i turn it off? please, help me.
thanx.

You should go to System->Preferences->Keyboard

Click the "Layouts" tab. And add the correct layout for your keyboard. Probably you accidentally chose one of the international "dead key" layouts when installing.
