Only volume sometimes...

Ok, volume only works sometimes. Like about 1/4th of the time. But here's what's weird. System sounds, like the beep or intro music, works all the time, and it will even play when the other sound is working. I can even adjust the volume of the system sounds with my speaker. What should I do?
