Nvidia driver in Intrepid Ibex- No direct Rendering & API mismatch

Alrite guys,

Upgraded ubuntu to Intrepid Ibex last night and kind of got the nvidia driver working for my geforce 6800 gts graphics card. The only problem i've got left to solve is that when i type in glxinfo it comes up with this error:

I'm really not sure how to go about solving this problem so i'd be grateful for any pointers in how to fix this.

i update to the latest nvidia proprietary prereleases for 64 bit Ubuntu 8.10 and nvidia 9600GT, 180.41 currently, from www.avenard.org (third party software source "deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos release/")using System-->Administration-->Synaptic Package Manager. i am not sure which programs are needed so i install all six provided:

there are a number of ways to make changes, depending on what changes you want:

open System-->Administration-->Hardware Drivers.
if there is an active video driver, click on it and then click Deactivate
click on the NVIDIA 180 driver
click Activate.
clock Close
reboot

to generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf, run sudo nvidia-xconfig
reboot

in a terminal window, run gksu nvidia-settings

I have also been having trouble with intrepid, I cannot get decent screen resolution 1040x800 should be 1400x900 currently it is sitting at about 1134x876 after reinstalling my 10th nvidia drivers.... so I just tried via synaptic and set everything to be removed about 7 files, and install the 180's -> 3 files

see how it goes...

EDIT: no joy, same deal, I have the same problem i still need to fix config file for the card. and i got no idea how to Makefile that comes with the package from Nvidia website.

Is that how your supposed to generate the file?

Edit: restarted to get an error running in low gfx mode -> resolution is 480x200 and can only see 3/4 of the monitor, reset xconfig again and tried clicking on settings everytime i get the same error.... no nvdia drivers installed.
