Hi, I am buying a digital camera as a gift for my gf who uses ubuntu. The camera I purchased has no linux drivers. What inexpensive camera for around 50 dollars or so will contain linux drivers, mount automatically, and be easy to exchange pictures with. (no command line as my gf is not very technical)

What inexpensive camera for around 50 dollars or so will contain linux drivers None ;) Nobody ships "Linux drivers". So much for the bad news.

The good news: There are no "drivers" needed. Chances are that the camera will already be recognised by Linux as such. You just connect it to the USB cable and tadaaa! a dialogue should open and offer you to download the pictures off the camera ...

Based on my experience I'd go with HP cameras. All the models I had so far just worked. It's so easy that even my non-technical wife (total computer noob!) has no problems whatsoever getting the pictures off the camera onto her GNOME desktop.
