I'm looking at buying a Blu-Ray ROM but don't know if my system will be able to play it in full format. Here are my specifications:
Ubuntu 8.1
AMD Athlon 3500+ single core CPU
Asus A8N motherboard
nVidia GeForce 8400 GS video card with 256 megabyte GPU
1 terabyte SATA II hard drive
2 gigs RAM dual channel
1080i Optoma 1690 projector

Yep. In short-on Linux, the answer is-"maybe" but it is a royal pain in the ****, and it likely ends up being illegal under DMCA. I've been keeping an eye on OSS attempts to create a BluRay decoder--and evidently Sony has changed the BD+ algorithm several times since initial release.
It is REALLY funny. Every format Sony pushes goes the way of the Dodo bird-due to proprietary drap or DRM. Memory Stick? Pfffft....MiniDisc (in consumer electronics)? Pffft....BluRay is yet another winner!
