Hello,

I am very new at linux and ubuntu. I've switched from windows XP a week ago.

The problem that I am having is with my cd/dvd drive.. it reads the cds and dvds with no problems EXCEPT for the blanks cds ( so I'm not able to burn anything) AND the windows restoration dvd for my toshiba AND the ubuntu cd from where I've installed Ubunto Hardy Heron 8.04 (also an opensuse 11 cd that i've just got).

In the two cases the blank CDs and booting cds it shows a blank cd.. which i'm not able to access.

The cds are ok because I can access them in other laptops and load the live version of them. The windows restoration cd is ok too because i can access it in other laptops as well.

So in other words, I'm not able to boot from the cd/dvd drive any more. (I've changed the booting order in the bios of course).

It is like if the actual system doesn't want to be deleted... and replaced .. I don't know just an impression.

Any help will be much apreciated.

Thanks
