When I am typing in a password, or even writing a paper it will jump backwards to the end or paste something where it shouldn't be while I am typing the typing bar just keeps jumping around when I type, I am not sure what to do and I am a new user to Ubuntu

My Dell Inspiron has always done this. Whether in Ubuntu or WinXP. I used to think maybe it was the keyboard but I replaced that and still the same problem.
After seraching for info, there may be a few causes. Some have said driver issues, but since it tends to happen in both OS's (at least for me) I am hesitant to assume it's that. The most common suggestion was that laziness has caused us to inadvertently hit our palms on the touch pad when typing. Another option based on this idea is to disable the touchpad and use a USB mouse. I already use a USB mouse on occasion so this idea, if it works, wouldn't be a big issue, though impractical for those who don't want the extra peripherals attached.
Yet another suggestion was to disable the cursor when typing in the mouse configuration.
Hope this info helps.

OK so this is an old thread - but did anyone find the cause as it is plaguing me at the moment.
Had it with Vista and it is still there in Ubuntu
